Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities (FHM) offers a broad span of humanities related disciplines such as Language Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Cultural Studies and Intellectual History, etc. It is committed to providing a comprehensive learning environment and balanced emphasis on academic knowledge, cross-cultural awareness and language competencies which helps to nurture and groom our graduates, contributing to the advancement of the humanities education and the betterment of the community.


In 2019/20, FHM offers six full-time undergraduate programmes:

 

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Chinese Major or English Major) (Four-year Full-time)

‘Rooted in Hong Kong, Engaging the world’ is the motto of this programme. The programme has two Major tracks, Chinese and English. It aims to help students develop their language proficiency, academic competence, cultural awareness and cross-cultural sensitivity.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (Four-year Full-time) (Senior Year Entry)

This programme aims to equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge in Chinese language and pedagogy. Students will develop the ability to analyse issues of Chinse teaching in the context of multilingualism and globalisation. All students are required to participate in non-local Field Experience.

Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese Language) (Five-year Full-time)

This is a cross-sectoral programme covering both primary and secondary school settings that aims to prepare students to become teachers with in-depth knowledge of Chinese Language. The programme not only focuses on balanced development on language, literature, culture and linguistics, but also provides pedagogical training to build up students’ teaching skills systemically. All students are required to participate in a compulsory immersion programme on Mainland China.

Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) – Primary (Five-year Full-time)

This programme focuses on education and complementary disciplines. Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of English Language, as well as the insights on how to promote English language learning in interesting and effective ways in primary schools. All students are required to participate in a compulsory overseas immersion programme.

This is a cross-sectoral programme covering both primary and secondary school settings that aims to prepare students to become effective teachers or other professionals with a good command of knowledge and skills in language skills. All students are required to participate in a compulsory overseas immersion programme.
