Language Enhancement Programmes

For UGC-funded undergraduate students, this comprises three mandatory Chinese enhancement courses, four mandatory English enhancement courses and two mandatory Putonghua enhancement courses, over the four/five years of the programme.

For self-financed undergraduate students, there are one mandatory Chinese enhancement course and two mandatory English enhancement courses.

Language Assessments

EdUHK English Proficiency Test (EEPT) and Tertiary Putonghua Test (TPT) [Applicable to Year 1 entry new students only]

EEPT is organised and conducted by the Centre for Language in Education (CLE) to measure the language proficiency of the full-time undergraduate students who do not possess the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination English results or any international English proficiency assessment results. The aim of the test is to find out students’ English proficiency levels and where students can have improvements. Students should pay due attention to emails in their EdUHK email account for details of the tests.

Students are required to take the TPT in Semester 1 of their Year-1 in order to get exempted from Putonghua enhancement courses and should pay due attention to emails in their EdUHK email account for details of the tests.

The schedule of the language assessments mentioned above can be found in Centre for Language in Education (CLE) website.
